CD Projekt RED has been talking about a new game inThe Witcheruniverse for many years now, with a full announcement landing only acouple of years ago. While the acclaimed developer hasn'tgiven a proper look at the gamejust yet, it did announce something for fans to look forward to today.
In a message to fans, CD Projekt RED joint-CEO Michal Nowakowski announced today that the studio is planning to launchThe Witcher IVin 2028. The release window isn't that close, but he asked the community to "let the team cook," adding that "it will be worth the wait."
"We have more than 500 incredibly talented developers working to create something truly special for you," added Nowakowski. "The Witcher IVfeatures a huge and immersive open world, intense and action-packed gameplay and a deep impactful story that we hope will stay with you for a long time. Simply put, this is our biggest, boldest, and most ambitious game to date."
Today's announcement was part of a broader message about thecompany's Gamescom presence. CD Projekt RED will be showing offThe Witcher 3 Wild Hunt'supcoming Songs of the Past expansion at the event for the first time. This will be in the form of a reveal at the Gamescom Opening Night Live event on August 25 as well as playable demos on the main event's show floor at Hall 8.

Announcedearlier this year, this surprise third expansion to the decade-oldThe Witcher 3: Wild Huntis bringing back Geralt of Rivia for players to experience a brand-new adventure in the hit fantasy world. Set to release sometime in 2027, the expansion may serve fans a story that bridges the gap between it and the upcomingWitcher 4,perhaps setting up the new protagonist's journey early.
Separate streams from the studio are also slated to go live during Gamescom with more surprises, according to the company.
